I use the AusVELS Mathematics curriculum to plan, deliver and assess my math classes. The study of math helps create confident investigators, interpreters and problem solvers. I use a variety of strategies to engage students such as concrete materials, games and open ended problems.
I designed and delivered a learning sequence to Foundation students on measurement. I used a range of strategies including concrete materials, games and incorporated children's literature to initiate a mathematical learning opportunity.
I designed and delivered a learning sequence to grade 1/2 students with a focus on fractions. I used group rotations which included using play-dough to represent 1/2 and 1/4. A final assessment piece required students to complete their own 'pizza fraction'.
"One lesson that demonstrated her potential to be an effective educator was a math lesson on probability... students enjoyed the activity, which engaged all ability levels from our most gifted students to those working well below grade level" - Debora Benedict supervising teacher |
When teaching probability to grade 6/7 students I used a lot of hands on activities and games which required students to move around and work together. |
